This brass sculpture is of the goddess
Saraswati, also known as Mata Rani, and Devi. She is the Hindu goddess of
knowledge, art and learning. This statue depicts Saraswati on her vasana, the
swan, with her instrument of choice, the sitar. Her elaborate headdress is
testament to her exalted stature among the gods, and her benevolent expression
is indicative of the peace she brings to any home. Cast in brass, solid to the core; found in Kerala It is in
excellent condition, retaining the aged sheen lent by time to the brilliant
bronze color that repels oxidization.
