This carving of the God of Garuda has been sourced from Chettinad temples where they were used as decorative items. Made out of bronze, in the 18th century, it shows the traditional pose of the bird-like Hindu god, who is the avian mount of Lord Vishnu. The lore of Hindu being extremely diverse, these depictions stray from the ordinary form of this god, and represent how he was seen, revered and worshiped in centuries past. This idol is how he is shown in carvings to this day.
